Za Pultem (Behind the Counter) (catalog)
Product detailed description
The exhibition Za Pultem (Behind the Counter) focuses on changes in the representation of femininity and the real and symbolic presence of women in public space. Through references to the visual culture of socialist modernism and the normalization period, it raises questions about work, visibility, and gender roles that have shaped collective memory. In their works, painters Adéla Janská (*1981), Paulina Olowska (*1976), and Caroline Walker (*1982) reconstruct and reinterpret the iconography of the second half of the 20th century. Inspiration from the series Žena za pultem (Woman Behind the Counter) creates a framework for critical dialogue between the past and the present. Through painting, installation, and video, the exhibition explores how the image of the emancipated woman was shaped by ideology and how it can be read today—in the context of current debates about work, identity, and visibility.
