Petr Nikl (screenprint)
Product detailed description
Telegraphic. You can have a unique piece of art with real artistic value in your home. The graphic by the Czech intermedia artist Petr Nikl is based on his performance Connections, realized at the Telegraph Gallery as part of the exhibition Connection. The black-and-white abstract serigraphy measuring 100 × 70 cm was created directly on the gallery floor, where the image was created by electronic machines and toys moving arbitrarily on an inclined plane.
The printing technique of serigraphy (or screen printing) consists of a process in which ink is pushed through a fine mesh onto the printing surface. The technique first appeared more than a thousand years ago in China, but gained its greatest popularity during the Pop Art period, when artists such as Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein made it famous. Telegraphics offer you a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with the work of contemporary artists. Each print in this limited edition reflects the unique approach and personal vision of its creator. Explore the full range of telegraphics and get a piece of an inspiring world with increasing artistic value to take home with you.
Petr Nikl (*1960) graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague in the studio of monumental and figurative painting. He is one of the founding members of the artistic group Tvrdohlaví. Thanks to his rich imagination and his still nourished childlike sensitivity, he soon emerged as an intermedia artist with classical roots who freely and convincingly crosses the boundaries between different genres. He expresses himself through traditional artistic techniques such as painting, drawing and printmaking (especially mezzotint), but he is also the author of poems, fairy tales and illustrations and a number of original books. An essential chapter of his work is performance and interactive projects that combine experimental theatre (puppetry and drama) with musical performance. He uses his voice, singing, curious sound instruments of his own making and fanciful disguises to play with personal identity. His undying fascination with exploring the world is also manifested in his improvisations, where he "draws" shapes using arbitrarily moving electronic machines. At other times, he lets patches of colour scatter on tissue paper, whose mirrored decals create symmetrical flowers.
