Connection (catalogue)
Product detailed description
The very need and ability to create art presupposes a heightened sensitivity - whether to the beauties of the external world or to the dimensions of the internal world. But only a few artists have the urge - and the talent - to give artistic form to phenomena and events that transcend objective reality and subjective experience, are not perceptible to the ordinary senses, and cannot be grasped even by reason. These creators have the gift of disconnecting from their own will, intention and self-censorship in order to connect to transpersonal processes. The catalogue commemorates an exhibition dedicated to these connected among contemporary Czech artists. The central figure of the exhibition is the only artist no longer living, Karel Malich (1924-2019), a solitary genius of Czech post-war art classified in the stream of the so-called New Sensitivity. For Malich, as well as for the other actors in the exhibition, drawing became the ideal means of expression, allowing for a spontaneous and authentic record of immediate experience. The repetitive movements of the drawing hand can accompany meditation, prayer or the recitation of mantras, imbuing the act of drawing with the character of a sacred ritual. The nearly one hundred and sixty-page publication includes reproductions of the drawings, photographs from the exhibition, curatorial texts and introductions to the artists. The catalogue is written in Czech and English.
With the purchase of the catalogue we will include a free guide to the exhibition Connection.
