Connection (Guide 9)
Product detailed description
Guide to the exhibition Connection.
The very need and ability to create art presupposes a heightened sensitivity - whether to the beauties of the external world or the dimensions of the internal world. But only a few artists have the urge - and the talent - to imprint an artistic form on phenomena and events that transcend objective reality and subjective experience, are not perceptible to the ordinary senses, and cannot be grasped even by reason. These creators have the gift of disconnecting from their own will, intention and self-censorship in order to connect to transpersonal processes. To these connected ones among contemporary Czech artists this project is dedicated.
The central figure of the exhibition is the only artist no longer living, Karel Malich (1924-2019), a solitary genius of Czech post-war art classified in the stream of the so-called New Sensibility. In his lifelong work, he explored the limits of sensory perception and its connection with universal natural and cosmic laws through the prism of his own metaphysical experience. For Karel Malich, as well as for the other participants in the exhibition, drawing became the ideal means of expression, which enables an authentic record of immediate experience. The spontaneous gesture of drawing, whether it is done by a pencil, pastel, pen, pen or brush, allows the artist to connect to the extra-sensory realms. Drawing records are usually created in a very short period of time and map the phases of the dynamic development of the depicted phenomenon.
At other times, the repetitive movements of the drawing hand accompany meditation, prayer or the recitation of mantras, giving the act of drawing the character of a sacred ritual. In this way, these drawers also become guides - mediums who gently touch the power lines of invisible energy flows and give us a message from the world beyond material reality. A similar principle of creation in connection was also at the heart of the emergence of the medium drawings of Czech Spiritism in the first half of the 20th century.
