Zbyněk Sedlecký (monograph and exhibition catalogue)
Product detailed description
The catalogue is also an extensive monograph of the Czech artist Zbyněk Sedlecký (*1976), who is one of the artists of a strong generation of painters entering the Czech art scene at the turn of the millennium. Through his paintings, Sedlecky captures and develops the contours of a generational feeling, which is shaped by his experience of the totalitarian regime of socialist Czechoslovakia, the vibrant period of newly acquired freedom in the 1990s and the consumerist contemporary world. The curator of the exhibition and editor of the book is Petr Vaňous, who in several chapters presents the path of the painter's work to date and the development of the artist himself. The book emphasizes above all the transformation of the visual character of Sedlecký's works in the last few years, when the covid pandemic forced us to remain in isolation. The artist moved from his remote, alienated landscapes and open exteriors to the closed environment of his studio, working with self-portraiture and artificially created reality. The hand as a symbol of tactile knowledge and proximity and the mysterious timelessness created through masks and props became a frequent motif in his current works. On nearly three hundred pages, in addition to an exhaustive number of reproductions of paintings created by the artist from 2007 to the time of publication, we can also find curatorial texts and an interview with the artist. The catalogue is written in Czech and English.
With the purchase of the monography, we will include a free guide to the Inscenation exhibition.
