Monika Žáková (*1987) is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague. Since the beginning of her career she has emphasized precision. Monika's work is characterised by concentration and a strong focus on the technical processing of her paintings. She is fascinated by layering and meaning when dealing with the relationship between materials, especially in the form of canvas and paper.
The title of the work XY opens space for different views and interpretations. This name leads us to distinguish the genders, refers to the perpendicular axes on the Cartesian coordinate system, represents unknown values and serves as a label for coordinates in the 2D representation. This ambiguity brings us to a deeper reflection and critical examination of the work. What connotations and meanings can we find in the context of XY? What is the relationship between these different perspectives? Does this title create tension or harmony? The result is a provocative and multidimensional work that invites viewers to reflect on the meaning and relationships between the concepts that XY evokes. By viewing the work with this in mind, we expand our understanding and open ourselves to new possibilities of comprehension.
