German Painting Now (catalogue)
Product detailed description
The former dominance of German Expressionism in the field of world painting was ended a century ago by two world wars and the dramatic geopolitical division between East and West. The attention of the art world then turned to America and especially to New York. However, German figurative painting was revived after German reunification in 1989. The catalogue commemorates an exhibition that comprehensively mapped contemporary German painting and presented some of the most important and influential figures working in Germany in the last ten years. The sixty pages of the publication feature reproductions of works by twelve artists, including both those who identify themselves as part of the renowned Leipzig School and those who have always been outside this sphere of influence. The reproductions are accompanied by curatorial texts and an interview with the exhibition's curator, Jane Neal. The catalogue is written in Czech, English and German.
