Figurative Imperative (catalogue)
Product detailed description
The catalogue for the exhibition at the Ján Koniarek Gallery in Trnava, which presented diverse figurative forms of contemporary painting in a European context. Not only the figure was the common denominator of the exhibited works from the Robert Runták Collection, the vast majority of the artists also drew their themes from photographs and used the photographic medium and snapshots as a starting point to reflect on the contemporary world. The key point, however, is that the artists are re-translating this photographic motif onto the canvas and subjecting it to a full-fledged painterly interpretation and transformation. This reaffirms that contemporary painting is able to absorb various media influences and digital images, while offering a distinctive narrative, painterly refinement and an individual expressive grasp of the subject. On nearly sixty pages you will find, in addition to reproductions of works by eighteen European artists, curatorial texts by Vladimír Beskid and Jan Kudrna. The catalogue is written in Czech, Slovak and English.
